KIMI KAPLOWITZ
Kimi Kaplowitz's jewelry is a celebration of nature's finer details. Each piece begins with tiny specimens collected while foraging the trails, forests, and coastlines close to home in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Mushrooms, ferns and diminutive creatures of the earth appear as common themes. Following her forays she creates molds of her findings in her studio and incorporates these elements into her meticulously crafted designs, occasionally weaving in sculptural elements to pump up the whimsy. Designs, models, molds, stone-setting and fabrication are done in-house. Kimi works with hand-selected, responsibly sourced gemstones, and each piece is cast and crafted in recycled gold. Kimi Kaplowitz has an academic and professional background in art-making, including a BFA in sculpture and metalsmithing from Moore College of Art and Design, and work in stop-motion animation, puppet fabrication and film. Her work as an artist has centered around the building of worlds in miniature, and this path has informed the development of her jewelry line over the last decade.
