PETRA CLASS
Petra Class Studio is a small team of skilled jewelers spanning 2 familial generations. The work is made of 22k and 18k recycled gold and precious gemstones, designed to emphasize color, texture, and the playful combinations of cut and rough stones. The studio uses age-old techniques of gold smithing and hand forging, stretching the boundaries of conventional jewelry design. Originally trained as a silversmith in Germany and having spent several years constructing tableware, Petra’s approach to jewelry making has been informed foremost by the European tradition of applied art. Since the studio’s founding in San Francisco, where Petra emigrated to in 1991, it has grown into an atelier across the west coast and, recently, New York City, where a team of gifted metalsmiths create an ever growing collection of sculptural, contemporary jewelry. Petra, accompanied by her son Lucas, are the creative forces behind the studio, while her daughter-in-law Phoebe runs operations and 3 brilliant bench jewelers assist in production.
